Me: There was a point in computing history when we could have had high-level programming languages be a normal way to interact with and customize your machines, like on the Alto. Computers, even microcontrollers, have much more power to do that stuff now.

Guy: I just don't think it's possible.

Me: But...Alan Kay did it 40 years ago. His technical limitations are now moot.

Guy: We're going to have to agree to disagree.

Me: 🤨

Truthfully I don’t really care about the experience of anyone who has to touch code? I mean, if you have to touch code to get stuff done I need to know that

My oven always starts its temperature-setter at 350, likely because that is what it usually ends up being. I can't decide whether this is ferociously irritating or the best possible design choice, and I vote

If it weren't for a Star Wars pun, maybe we'd be talking about it. It sure seems relevant.

Just spent a solid 2 minutes at the bar trying to figure out which “oldie” they were playing a cover of. Realized it was the fucking Strokes and I was five years out of college. BRB gonna go wither into dust

I just made a sign. With a box and two Sharpies. I live on a feeder street onto the freeway; figure I'll hold it out there in the morning.

I grew up in Berkeley but I've never done this before. Does it look okay?

Dear Mastodon, did you know I'm looking for work? I am. Still a front end-leaning dev after 24 years, focused on React and Node rn. Hoping for Portland-local but whatever
